As part of our programme, we offer direct sessions with students and training for teachers focussed on the Fundamental British Values which the government requires schools and colleges to cover: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual tolerance and respect for those of different faiths and beliefs.
We use values-related scenarios to enable enable children and young people to connect their instinctive reactions to different situations to both their own values and the Fundamental British Values. Seeking to encourage critical thinking and oracy skills amongst learners as well as conceptual learning, we explore the complexities and contradictions of the values we are discussing, and, depending on time, also ask the following questions:
